Last week, we looked at three of the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross. We will now examine the other four.

The number “seven” is very significant in Scripture. It appears over 700 times and often represents completion or perfection.

Jesus was not a social recluse. He was a “people-person” who enjoyed mingling with others and having a good time. This is evident from the many dinner parties He attended in Scripture.

If the book of Acts had a favorite car, which one would it be? A convertible, of course, because missionaries love them!

There have been some impressive examples of self-sacrifice. For instance, Jordan Rice was thirteen and unable to swim when his family became trapped in a car by flood waters.

A new preacher went to visit one of the members. It was obvious that someone was home, but no one answered his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, the preacher took out a business card and wrote “Revelation 3:20” on it. He then tucked the card in the door and left.

The Village Church of Christ has been blessed with many baptisms. We had 29 last year and are on track to surpass that number this year.

God’s arrangement for the local church is quite simple. For instance, the Philippian letter is addressed to the overseers [elders], deacons, and saints (Philippians 1:1).

What is the proper attire for worship? That question has caused a great deal of strife among Christians.

By grace, Jesus died “for all” (2 Corinthians 5:14), tasted death “for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9), and is the propitiation “for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2). This means that all can benefit from what God has done through Christ. No one is beyond reach.

Few songs are more recognizable to Christians than “Amazing Grace.” It is a fixture in many worship services and funerals. But what exactly is grace, and why is it so amazing?

The Lord promised to build his church. He declared, “On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). “Church” is from the Greek word ekklesia and means “assembly.”

Prayer is a special privilege for Christians. It gives us an open line of communication with God and ought to be taken advantage of regularly.

“Must I get baptized to be saved?” Though there are plenty of passages that teach baptism has a role in salvation, many deny this truth because “baptism is a work and we are not saved by works.” Therefore, I would like to consider that argument scripturally.

In the early 1800s, some Methodist missionaries went into northeast Alabama to evangelize Indian clans. They came upon some English-speaking Indians and gave them a Bible to read, promising to return the next year.

When mankind fell into sin and was in danger of eternal death, Jesus the Lamb knew just what to do. He left the comfortable confines of heaven and wrapped Himself in the womb of a woman. Nine months later he emerged as an infant in the tiny town of Bethlehem (Lk. 2:4-7).

The Bible claims to be of divine origin. It says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). The phrase “breathed out by God” (theopneustos) means that it is the product of His creative breath.

While there are many ways to prove that the Bible is inspired, prophecy may be the best way to do so. Even critics must admit that these words were uttered long before the events took place. The question is, “What will you do with such undeniable evidence?”

We need preachers who will call sin “sin”. Men with the courage to address the pressing moral issues of our day like abortion and homosexuality; and the ignored sins in society like divorce, foul language, and immodest apparel. Men who will be truth-tellers rather than ear-ticklers.

There is no need to create fanciful traditions that contradict scripture to honor Mary. We all believe that she was a virgin when she conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
